Mission

The Psychology Department is committed to improving the quality of life for people, communities, and organizations. The Department aims to accomplish these goals through scientifically grounded training that allows faculty and students to identify and solve complex psychosocial problems and meet organizational challenges. Consistent with the overall mission of Iona University, the Department strives to recognize diversity, stay abreast of current scientific literature, methods, and procedures, and foster intellectual curiosity and critical thinking so that our students can move the world.

Students should demonstrate fundamental knowledge and comprehension of the major concepts, theoretical perspectives, historical trends, and empirical findings to discuss how psychological principles apply to behavioral problems.

The skills in this domain involve the development of scientific reasoning and problem solving, including effective research methods.
