The Application Process
The admission decision is based on evaluation of a completed application file which must include:
- A completed application form with $50 fee;
- An official transcript from each undergraduate and graduate institution previously attended;
- Three letters of recommendation;
- In some cases, students will be asked to submit recent GRE or GMAT scores;
- Other requirements may be specified by individual departments. The Office of Admissions will let you know if this is the case;
- Applicants are encouraged to have an interview with a member of the admissions staff, but an interview is not required.
Applications are processed on a rolling basis and decisions on admission are mailed out when the application file is complete. Applications are valid for one year from the day they are received. Students who do not register in the term for which they are accepted may defer their enrollment for up to one year by requesting a deferral in writing.
Applicants whose native language is not English must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and arrange for the official scores to be sent to the appropriate Graduate Admissions Office. A minimum score of 213 (550 paper-based) is required for admission. All other documents in languages other than English must be accompanied by certified English translations and evaluated by World Education Services (www.WES.org). Checks must be payable in US dollars.
A strong emphasis is placed on student advisement for students accepted to the College. Procedures include an interview with the associate director of admissions and/or the department chair. Advisement is available for new and continuing students throughout the academic year from the chair or a full-time faculty member who is assigned to the student as academic advisor. Advisement sessions are devoted to assessing students' progress in the program and providing support and guidance for their professional growth and career goals.
