Why study Artificial Intelligence?

Whether you are aware of it or not, artificial intelligence (AI) has already profoundly affected your life. From the cellphone in your pocket to the vast programs being used across industries as diverse as transportation to finance, AI is being utilized to drive efficiency, innovate new modes of productivity and push boundaries that were once assumed to be fixed.

In this program, you will not only learn about the multitude of AI tools being used across a variety of industries, but also how to ethically and productively use AI in your desired career and beyond. Students will gain both theoretical knowledge and practical skills to navigate AI’s complex landscape with ethical leadership and innovative problem-solving. 

Why study Artificial Intelligence at Iona?

Open to All Majors

This 15-credit interdisciplinary minor is open to all majors. While the coursework draws from the areas of entrepreneurship, business, computer science and information systems, artificial intelligence (AI) is quickly touching every industry. Upon graduation, having a firm grasp of AI's capabilities as well as its limitations will be a benefit to students regardless of their major.

Build an Ethical Foundation

At Iona, we firmly believe that AI is a tool not meant to replace deep thought and inquiry, but to enhance those critical endeavors. Students will not only learn the technical aspects of AI but also how to apply its uses ethically, productively and professionally.

Explore Innovation

Students in this minor gain hands-on experience by exploring innovation through design projects that solve real-world problems. They may choose topics most interesting to them, whether in business, social, environmental, or any other area. Their work will be guided by our leading faculty, and students have access to the Hynes Institute for Entrepreneurship & Innovation and the Gabelli Center for Teaching & Learning.
