Dr. Amy D. Stackhouse teaches courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Her courses include John Milton, Seventeenth-Century literature, the Metaphysicals, Shakespeare on Film, Renaissance literature, Literary London and Poetry. Dr. Stackhouse also teaches courses in the Honors Program, including Honors Composition, The Ancient World, The Medieval World and the Early Modern World. Her current research interests are on John Milton, the history of authorship and poetry.

Dr. Amy D. Stackhouse earned her bachelor's degree in English at the University of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va. After graduation, she attended the Universidad de Salamanca in Spain where she earned a certificate in Spanish language and Composition. Upon returning to the United States, Dr. Stackhouse attended Boston College where she earned her master's degree in English under the direction of Dr. Dayton Haskin. Dr. Stackhouse received her Ph.D. from the University of Maryland at College Park, specializing in John Milton and the literature of the English Renaissance and seventeenth century. Her dissertation was directed by Dr. Marshall Grossman and focused on tropes of collaborative authorship in the works of John Milton. In 2013 she was awarded the Association for General & Liberal Studies' Jerry Gaff Award.

Dr. Stackhouse has served as the assistant chair of the English Department at Iona, as well as faculty moderator for Sigma Tau Delta, the English honor society. She is the coordinator of the London summer study abroad program and coeditor of the Shakespeare Newsletter. She is associate editor of Appositions: Studies in Renaissance/Early Modern Literature and Culture. She has organized several international interdisciplinary conferences on intellectual property, as well as organizing Iona's undergraduate humanities conference.

She has received numerous grants for her teaching and research and was most recently recognized for her teaching with the Catherine McCabe Award for Innovation and Excellence in Teaching.

Dr. Stackhouse has published on Milton and Shakespeare and has presented her research at conferences nationally and internationally, including at Oxford University. Her current research interests are on John Milton, the history of authorship and poetry.
