New Rochelle, N.Y. – Iona University’s 4+1 programs empower students to earn both a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in just five years, reducing time and tuition costs.

Students in the dual degree programs still receive all the benefits of an Iona education, including service-learning opportunities, invaluable critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and a strong sense of innovation – but at an accelerated pace to begin a promising career sooner. Students in the 4+1 programs are also eligible for a variety of scholarships and/or merit awards.

  • Transition directly into the master’s program after completing undergraduate degree.
  • Exempt from having to submit regular online application along with supplemental application materials.
  • Automatically eligible for the Iona Alumni Scholarship. 
  • Eligible for the Edmund Rice Scholarship if GPA is a 3.5 or above.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

Master of Business Administration (MBA) 

After double majoring as an undergraduate in finance and accounting, Michael Faughnan ’24, ’25MBA chose to further his education by pursuing an MBA with a focus on business analytics. As co-captain of the men’s swimming and diving team, he also just completed a summer internship at Ernst & Young, one of the top accounting firms in the nation.

“Iona prepared me for the job market by giving me a rigorous curriculum in both my majors and supportive career counseling,” he said.

Education

Debora Diaz ’25, ’26MST, currently enrolled in the 4+1 math and adolescent education program, said what interests her most about teaching is helping the lives of young people. She chose Iona so she could make her dream job a reality as soon as possible.

“I wanted to attend a university that was going to set me up for success post-graduation,” said Diaz. “With such an outstanding dual-degree program, I am going to start my dream career as soon as I graduate.”  

Computer Science

Joshua Gitter ’18,’19MS graduated with a dual degree in computer science, concentrating in cybersecurity via the 4+1 program. Gitter credits his current success as a senior data engineer at Endeavors to the transformative internship opportunities facilitated by his professors at Iona.  

“One of the best parts about going to Iona was its connections to get students internships. After finishing my freshman year, Dr. Bailie approached me about an internship at IBM,” he said. “I believe that the internship was a catalyst for my career. I was able to gain industry knowledge and get professional experience. I was also able to turn that into a full-time position once I graduated.”

Criminal Justice

Genesis Mojica ’20, ’21MS earned a dual degree in criminal justice and now serves within the New York Police Department (NYPD). She said her time at Iona, combined with her fieldwork experience, prepared her for her current role as an NYPD police officer.

“Iona made me a well-rounded person. The professors were amazing, the mentors [and] the community within the college prepared me for who I am,” she said. “Professionally, it allowed me to grow confident in myself and to walk into any room and not be intimidated by who’s there.”
