New Rochelle, N.Y. – Drawn to Iona University for the opportunity to get ahead in business, Herolinda Dacaj ’25 said her time in New Rochelle has afforded her greater access to a diverse alumni network, experienced professors and an opportunity to build meaningful relationships with seasoned professionals.

“Overall, my Iona experience has given me the knowledge, connections and confidence to excel in my career,” she said. “Iona alumni frequently return to campus to share invaluable advice about their professional journeys, which has been incredibly inspiring.”

Flourishing beyond the classroom, Dacaj recently secured an internship over the summer with Merrill Lynch in Greenwich, Conn., where they extended her role to seasonal client associate until 2025.

The Bronx native credits cocurricular events such as The LaPenta School of Businesses’ “Career Chats” and C-suite talks as a source of motivation and inspiration.

She’s also engaged around campus as an active member of several organizations such as women in business club, finance club,  Gaels Go Further Mentoring Program Advisory Board and the Beta Gamma Sigma honors society.

“I believe the most distinctive advantage I gained from my Iona experience is that I have felt seen and heard,” she said.

Her biggest piece of advice for new students?

“Never be afraid to put yourself out there. Always ask questions, attend school events, visit the career center, and most importantly, take a few minutes after class to have a conversation with your professor,” she said. “These after-class conversations can build strong relationships and show your professors how much you care about thriving.”
