Compliance

The rights of employees, students and applicants are protected under various federal and state laws.

  • Americans with Disabilities Act: prohibits private employers, state and local governments, employment agencies and labor unions from discriminating against qualified individuals with disabilities in job application procedures, hiring, firing, advancement, compensation, job training, and other terms, conditions and privileges of employment.
  • Annual Security and Fire Safety Report: also referred to as the "Clery Report," contains important Campus Safety policies and protocols as well as crime statistics for Iona University for the past three years. This report is published annually by October 1 by the Iona University Department of Campus Safety.  
  • Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Section 504: no "otherwise qualified handicapped individual" shall be excluded from participation in a program or activity receiving federal financial assistance ("college, university or other post-secondary institution, or a public system of higher education").
  • Title VII (Seven) of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 declares employment discrimination based on sex illegal. Sexual harassment is a form of sex discrimination.
  • Title IX (Nine) Education Amendments of 1972: protects people from sex discrimination in educational programs and activities receiving federal financial assistance. The Title IX Coordinator is Jennifer Lykins.
  • New York State Human Rights Law: outlaws discrimination based on sex.
