Skill Development

In the certificate program, you learn techniques to enhance your clinical communication skills, allowing you to build trust with patients and clients to provide the best possible care. You develop your expertise in motivational interviewing, deep listening, multicultural awareness, and other cutting-edge techniques.

Effective Communication Strategies

Coursework introduces elements of effective healthcare communication, including how to deliver difficult news to patients, speak with family members, and increase patient satisfaction and compliance.

Flexible Course Options

With one required course and three elective courses, healthcare professionals can select the communication classes that are most appropriate for their professional development.

Admission Requirements

Admission for Iona University’s Advanced Certificate in Clinical Communication is based on either of the following criteria:

  1. Admission into the MA in Communication Sciences Disorder program or related graduate program at Iona University and 3.0 minimum GPA.
  2. A healthcare professional with an MA, MS, MD, Ph.D., NP, MBA, PSYD or AUD in a healthcare-related field such as Audiology, Health Administration, Marriage and Family Therapy, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Psychology, Public Health, Social Work or Speech Language Pathology.
