In an ever-changing political landscape, the information and influence that mass media has on our society is significant. How can we, as consumers of mass media, cut through the noise? An in-depth understanding of media influence will guide you through that noise and help prepare you for a career in media.
Why Study Media, Politics & Society at Iona?
This is a hands-on program, which gives you valuable experiential learning. You will have access to our state-of-the-art Multimedia Digital Lab –a professional environment where you can work with the software and tools used in the field -- as well as opportunities to participate in a variety of media clubs, including Iona College TV (ICTV) and Iona College Radio (WICR).
You will also gain real world experience through prized internships -- and with NYC, the media hub of the world, just a short train ride away, you will have access to leading media outlets and opportunities that consistently turn into jobs.
Our faculty are experts in the media and politics arenas and are regularly called on by the media to share their knowledge. You will learn from and work alongside professionals who can provide you crucial connections to their impressive networks.
What You'll Learn
This minor brings together elements from our media & strategic communications and political science programs, and provides you with opportunities to pursue your special interests with electives from the School of Arts & Science and the LaPenta School of Business.
You will gain a strong foundation in both mass media and politics –studying everything from digital production and broadcasting to contemporary American politics.
You will learn how to be an engaged citizen and consumer of political information through the media. Through opportunities to hone your analysis skills, you will take a critical look at how the information portrayed in the media influences our society and our decisions.
