Spanish and Adolescent Education (BA/MST)
Want to Be a High School Spanish Teacher?
Spanish is spoken by millions of people around the world and in the United States. Share your love of the Spanish language while preparing the next generation for success in a multi-lingual, increasingly diverse world!
Why Study Spanish and Adolescent Education at Iona?
In just five years — instead of the six it would typically take — you’ll earn a BA in Spanish, an MST in Adolescent Education, as well as your New York State Initial teaching certification.
Our program will provide you with a solid foundation and fluency in the Spanish language and culture. You will be exposed to ideas, beliefs, and writings that will promote your intellectual, cultural, and moral development.
You will learn from dedicated faculty who have first-hand experience as teachers, principals, and school superintendents. They will become your mentors, field placement supervisors, career advisers, and advocates as they help you move successfully from our campus to a classroom of your own.
You will be on a timely path to teaching with field placement opportunities within your first two years.
What You'll Learn
You’ll master the Spanish language and learn how to share your passion and fluency with others. You will immerse in the Hispanic culture – diving into art, architecture, literature, theater, film and much more.
You will gain an understanding of how students learn, and you will develop the skills and experience to teach students in grades 7-12 in diverse settings. Through creative exploration you will learn effective ways to share your knowledge with students in the classroom.

The BS/MST degree is designed to launch you right into a career in secondary education! Your BA in Spanish provides you with the fluency and cultural appreciation needed for a success in a multi-lingual world, should you want to explore your options!
