Why Mathematics?

Do you love problem-solving? Are you good with numbers? If the answer is yes, then Mathematics may be the right major (and career) for you.

Why Study Mathematics at Iona?

Our programs will prepare you to make an impact in some of today’s most challenging fields. You will graduate with the critical-thinking skills and scientific background to excel in any analytic-based career path – business, science, information technology and more.

You will learn from faculty who share their knowledge and experience, and bring innovative approaches to math using modern technology.

You may choose to earn either a BA or a BS in Mathematics. The BS degree curriculum provides an additional 9-credit STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) component, which will allow you to take classes in another area of interest. Whether you take classes in Computer Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Ecology, the BS will allow you to explore a broader area of study. The BA degree does not include a STEM focus.

What You'll Learn

You will gain a solid foundation in mathematical methods and techniques in a curriculum that emphasizes three major areas: algebra, analysis and applied mathematics.

You will become skilled at expressing ideas using mathematical language, algorithms, and technological tools, and at understanding and writing proofs.

You will develop the logical and analytical thinking skills that will enable you to become a valued problem-solver within a broad range of industries.

Tamantha Pizarro

During my time at Iona, I participated in Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REUs) during the summers. This further pushed me to attend graduate school. Iona played a huge part in helping me obtain these REUs.
