Iona University Welcomes Emmy Award-Winning Sports Anchor Bruce Beck as Executive-in-Residence
Beck will serve as a mentor and resource for students in Iona’s Sports Communication & Media Graduate Program
NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. & BRONXVILLE, N.Y. — Iona University is pleased to announce that Bruce Beck, an Emmy Award-winning lead sports anchor for NBC 4 New York, is joining its Sports Communication & Media graduate program as an executive-in-residence.
Beginning in the Fall 2023 semester, Beck will serve as a guest lecturer in classes; provide one-on-one access to students for mentoring and guidance on career opportunities; assist students in finding internships; invite current and/or past broadcasters, athletes and coaches to campus to engage with students and much more.
“We are thrilled to welcome Bruce as our new executive-in-residence,” said Joseph Stabile, Ph.D., dean of the School of Arts & Science. “He brings 26 years of sports broadcasting experience with NBC, and his unique perspective will support the first-class training and personal touch Iona University's students receive in our Sports Communication & Media graduate program. Bruce has a proven track record in mentoring students in sports media, designing and leading entrepreneurial enterprises, and assisting young professionals in making industry connections.”
In addition to his role as lead sports anchor with NBC 4 New York, Beck serves as the host and sideline reporter for the New York Giants pre-season football coverage and host of NBC 4’s Sunday night sports show, "Sports Final."
Notably, Beck has covered a multitude of global events during his career including five Super Bowls, eight World Series, the NBA Finals, the Stanley Cup Finals, the U.S. Open Tennis Championship, the U.S. Open Golf Championship, the NCAA Final Four, the Kentucky Derby and ten Olympics between 2002 and 2020.
Among his many accomplishments, Beck received a 2011 New York Sports Emmy for his interview with former Rutgers football player Eric LeGrand. He also received the 2006 New York Emmy for Outstanding Sports Anchor and was the recipient of a 1999 New York Emmy Award for Outstanding On-Camera Achievement in Sports Reporting. In total, he has received eight New York Sports Emmys, one Mid-Atlantic Sports Emmy, and three national Cable Ace Awards. Meanwhile, the National Sports Media Association (NSMA) elected him New York State Sportscaster of the Year nine times from 2007 to 2017.
Beck holds his popular Bruce Beck Sports Broadcasting Camp on Iona’s campus each summer. In collaboration with top sportscasters and personalities in New York, Beck teaches the fundamentals of the industry to the next generation of sports broadcasters.

Iona’s Sports Communication & Media graduate program blends traditional coursework with engagement in real-world broadcasting of professional and collegiate sports. The courses train students to perform at the highest level of professional media competencies, including live game reporting, video editing, studio and radio show production, blogging and more.
