Reporting Sexual Assault Incidents
In accordance with the Violence Against Women Act and in compliance with Title IX, Iona University is committed to promoting a safe learning environment where students, faculty, staff and administrators work collaboratively to foster intellectual inquiry, community engagement and an appreciation for diversity and respect. Iona University will provide nonjudgmental and appropriate support services for any sexual assault survivor regardless of gender, age, race, ethnicity, ability or sexual orientation — whether or not the survivor chooses to report the crime.
Sexual misconduct may vary in its severity and consists of a range of behaviors including, but not limited to, the following:
- Sexual Assault
- Non-Consensual Sexual Contact/Activity
- Forced Sexual Contact/Activity
- Non-Consensual Sexual Intercourse/Penetration (Rape)
- Forced Sexual Intercourse/Penetration (Rape)
- Sexual Exploitation
- Sexual Harassment
- Sex and/or Gender Discrimination
- Domestic Violence
- Dating Violence
- Stalking
If you have experienced any of the behaviors described above, the University encourages you to immediately seek help and support by reporting the conduct.
The University encourages victims/survivors or witnesses to consider their personal safety and physical/emotional well-being. It is also important to report the conduct so that steps can be taken to safeguard the community. Confidential emotional support services are available at the Counseling Center. Information revealed in counseling is private, and investigation of sexual misconduct incidents will not be initiated as a consequence of participating in counseling.
