Academic Supports for Faculty
Rationale
As part of its evaluation of academic institutions, the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) must “verify that institutions have effective procedures in place to ensure that the students who register in a distance or correspondence education course are the same students who participate in and complete the course, and receive the academic credit.” To comply with this regulation, Iona University uses the services of ProctorU, an online proctoring service for students taking exams for distance learning and some hybrid courses.
Policy
Students who are enrolled in all DL courses and hybrid courses utilizing online examinations are required to use ProctorU to monitor their online test-taking. This policy will only include examinations that are given for course credit/grading. Non-graded evaluations are not covered by this policy. Instructors will provide ProctorU with the testing dates/times their examinations should be available to students, any special instructions, and their contact information. Instructors will also provide students with information about ProctorU in their course syllabi.
Payment Information
Currently, Iona University covers all costs associated with the use of ProctorU exam monitoring services. Students will only incur fees if they fail to schedule appointments to take examinations at least 72 hours in advance.
