Black Student Union (BSU)
Established in 2011, The Black Student Union (BSU) is an organization that advocates for the needs of students from culturally diverse backgrounds who attend the University, while empowering, teaching, discussing and exploring the Black experience.
In collaboration with the office of DEIB, BSU’s mission is to foster student growth and development through performing arts, academics, community service and outreach in an effort to promote cultural diversity and the peaceful coexistence of multicultural groups. The Black Student Union provides an opportunity for students of all races to celebrate black culture, lifestyle, and history.
The cultivation of all those efforts and the rich magnitude of community building is showcased to the community with BSU’s annual Culture Show.
Additionally, as BSU continues to educate the importance of performing arts on the black experience, the organization debuted the BSU Dance Experience Team (BSU Dance) in 2018.

"Serving my community through service and leadership is something that I have always been passionate about. In addition to my other leadership roles on campus, I currently serve as the president of the Black Student Union. This role has enhanced my leadership capabilities, but most importantly, it has defined what a leader should be and pushed me to that standard in order to serve my community. Being a leader does not require you to be the loudest voice in the room, but rather it requires one to be the most precise listening ear. Again, the job is not grounded in commanding, but rather in guiding and mentoring a diverse group of passionate individuals. The most important thing one can do as a leader is show up."
