June Orientation FAQs

Registering For Orientation

Please save the dates for all three parts of the 2024 New Student Orientation.

Part 1: June 2024 one-day on-campus session for students and families.
For those coming from a great distance, please contact us to make alternative arrangements.

Part 2: Summer online modules and submission of necessary material prior to Thursday, August 22 at noon.

Part 3: August 2024 New Student Orientation and Welcome Days! 

All incoming new students will take part in a mandatory two-day program on Sunday, August 25 and Monday August 26. The mandatory two-day Orientation session is reserved for our new first-year and transfer students. Additional information will be available by June. 

REGISTER NOW: ORIENTATION

Orientation takes place throughout four scheduled one-day sessions in the month of June. Each incoming new undergraduate student must attend an Orientation session. Registration is encouraged as soon as possible to reserve your desired spot.  

These 2024 dates are: 

  • NSO Summer Session 1: Monday, June 10, 2024
  • NSO Summer Session 2: Wednesday, June 12, 2024
  • NSO Summer Session 3: Thursday, June 13, 2024
  • NSO Summer Session 4: Tuesday, June 18, 2024

The June Orientation sessions begin at 8:30 a.m. and are anticipated to run until approximately 6 p.m.

Register for New Student Orientation today at www.iona.edu/orientation.

You will receive an automated email confirmation. If you do not receive a confirmation email, your registration did not go through.

We encourage students to register as soon as possible for a greater likelihood they will be able to reserve a spot in their New Student Orientation session of choice.

To provide for the best experience for our incoming students each Orientation session has a limited number of spaces available. Once registration spaces are filled students will need to register for the next available session. If you need additional assistance, please feel free to email orientation@iona.edu or call the Center for Student Engagement at (914) 633-2360.

If you are having difficulty with the online Orientation registration process, please feel free to email your full name, contact number and date requested to orientation@iona.edu.

Simply return to www.iona.edu/orientation as soon as possible and re-register with the new date or updated details. Our system will adjust the session date or update the number of guest or family members that may be joining you automatically. If the system is no longer available, please provide the information to orientation@iona.edu as soon as possible. 

If for some reason you are unable to attend a required New Student Orientation session, please email us at orientation@iona.edu so we may work with you on a case-by-case basis.

Students and families from a distance can schedule a Zoom meeting or phone call for a personalized session in June or early July so we may answer any questions they may have. To schedule the zoom meeting, please call (914) 633-2360 or email orientation@iona.edu.

Orientation checklist:

  • Sweater or sweatshirt;
  • picture ID;
  • umbrella;
  • sunscreen;
  • comfortable shoes;
  • cell phone and charger;
  • any medication needed;
  • print out of your class schedule;
  • Health Immunization forms.
  • Optional: Your laptop, so you can connect your device to Iona's wireless network before classes begin.

Orientation check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. and will occur for residential and commuter students in Mulcahy Gym. Parents and Families will check in Hynes Athletics Arena. Please pay close attention to email communication with updated information and details of the schedule as the date gets closer. 

Please go to the Center for Student Engagement located on the second floor of the LaPenta Student Union directly upon your arrival to campus. If you have any questions, please call (914)633-2360 or email orientation@iona.edu.

Yes, you may bring your car to campus for Orientation. Temporary parking for unloading and drop offs will be offered in the parking lot communicated closer to the date of the event. Students and parents must then park their cars in the parking garage.

Iona identification photos will be taken at a schedule session during New Student Orientation. Commuter students may complete a Parking Permit request online.  

Yes, there is a bus located right outside of the campus on North Ave. The Metro North Train also runs through downtown New Rochelle. Iona University's Gael Express will be available upon request by contacting orientation@iona.edu or contact Campus Safety directly at (914) 633-2560. 

Yes, please let your orientation coordinator know when you arrive that you have dietary restrictions or food allergies. You should also speak with the Dining Services Staff of Chartwells on site. The Orientation registration form also allows space to include this information.

Yes, all sessions and workshops are mandatory. They were planned with a purpose and will provide students with important information to make your transition to Iona a success. Sessions are interactive and a lot of fun! They are a great way to meet other Gaels!

Parent/Family Orientation

Parent and Family Orientation occurs on the same days as the one-day June Orientation sessions. While the Parent/Family Orientation is not mandatory, it is strongly recommended. This orientation provides parents with campus information including, but not limited to, wellness and safety, financial services, and campus resources.
