Information for Current Iona Students Interested in the BS Degree in Nursing
The BS degree in Nursing program for traditional students accepts current, qualified Iona students. The number of seats available for current undergraduate Iona students is limited, and the process is highly selective. Before consideration for admission to the program, the following minimum requirements must be met.
Minimum Requirements:
- Minimum Iona cumulative GPA of 3.2.
- Completion of one full-time semester at Iona University.
- Submission of a completed application.
Pre-Requisite Courses
The nursing major is a cohort-based program. If a candidate is accepted, additional pre-requisite courses must be fulfilled and may be required to be taken in winter and summer sessions at the student’s expense. Pre-requisite requirements can be found in the course catalog.
Application Process
A holistic approach is used for the admission process. Students must first meet the minimum requirements and submit a full application for review. Each applicant’s academic history, including math and sciences from high school, will be reviewed as well.
Only completed applications will be reviewed at the beginning of every month and notifications will be sent to students through Iona’s email system.
Application Process:
- Complete application form
- Submission of a personal statement that addresses:
(a) reason for choosing nursing as a major and future career;
(b) accomplishments that demonstrate academic success and professionalism.
-Personal statement is limited to 5 pages, double spaced, 12-point font. The personal statement must be emailed to NursingDept@iona.edu. - Submission of a letter of recommendation from an Iona academic faculty member to address academic abilities and personal character.
