Iona University’s Winged Foot Golf Outing Achieves Milestone $460,000 in Scholarship Support
Iona University’s 51st Annual Trustees Invitational proved to be a resounding success, raising a record $460,000 in support of student scholarships for Winged Foot employees and their families.
Held at the prestigious Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, N.Y., this year’s event saw 188 golfers take to the greens, making for an unforgettable day of camaraderie and charitable giving.
Michael Hegarty ’66, chairman of the Board of Trustees, extended his profound thanks to the supporters who have made this event a success year after year. Hegarty highlighted the significant impact of the event, noting that over 200 students have earned their Iona degree thanks to the scholarships funded by this annual gathering.
Michael Arteaga ’27, a caddie at Winged Foot and recipient of a Winged Foot Scholarship, shared his inspiring journey with attendees. Arteaga, a student in the LaPenta School of Business, is the founder of Iona’s Club Golf team and an active member of Iona’s Organization of Latin American Students. He expressed his heartfelt gratitude, saying, “Receiving this scholarship meant the world to me and my parents. Iona is an amazing place, and I am grateful for everyone who made it possible for me to have this life-changing experience.”
The event’s presenting sponsors were Anne Marie and James P. Hynes ’69, ’01H, and Armando C. Rodriguez Jr. ’86 of A&A Elevated Facility Solutions and the Wheelhouse Foundation.
