Iona’s Landon Popovic ’27 Named Finalist at the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System Conference
New Rochelle, N.Y. – Landon Popovic ’27, a media & strategic communication major at Iona University, was recently honored as a finalist for the “Best Sports Talk Show” award at the annual Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS) conference in New York City. The IBS Media Awards recognize excellence in student radio broadcasting around the country.
“Being named as a finalist for IBS is something I am extremely proud of, but I think what is more important is how I can learn from my experience around all these people with the same passion,” Popovic shared. His show “Empire State of Sports,” on Iona's radio station WIUR, has become a platform for showcasing his unique voice.
Reflecting on his Iona journey, Popovic said, “There was a period in my life when I had lost my way, but through Iona, I was gifted with some of the best resources to manifest my dream of breaking into the media industry.”
Attending the IBS conference allowed Popovic to engage with students from across the country, gaining insights into the evolving world of media. Competing against thousands of submissions, he was recognized as one of the top 5 percent of media students nationwide
“Although I didn’t win, I will learn from this experience and continue to grow because it was the same work ethic that got me to where I am today.”
