Employee Benefits
Iona University is proud to offer our employees a very comprehensive benefits program. Our plans offer a wide range of options to fit the needs of our employees and their families.
The Human Resources team partners with our benefit providers to ensure our plans remain competitive in terms of costs and coverage offered. The Iona University benefit plans are open to full time faculty, administrators and staff.
All questions on the benefits plans should be directed to HR@iona.edu.
ENROLLMENT INFORMATION
All full-time employees are eligible for benefits effective the first of the month following their hire date or transition to full-time status date. Employees will select insurance enrollments through the Paycom employee self-service portal (link). All enrollments must be completed by the last day of the month in which they become eligible for benefits. Unless the employee has a qualifying event, all enrollments outside of this window will be processed during open enrollment. Benefits that can be changed outside of open enrollment include 403b retirement, life insurance, and transportation flexible spending account (FSA).
OPEN ENROLLMENT
Open enrollment is held annually in November with an insurance effective date of January 1. With the exception of a qualifying event, open enrollment is the only opportunity employees have to make changes to medical, dental, vision, and flexible spending accounts.
Important Note - Flexible Spending coverage does not roll over from year to year. All employees must re-enroll during open enrollment each year.
QUALIFYING EVENTS
A qualifying event allows an employee to make changes outside of open enrollment. A qualifying event is considered a change in family status (e.g., birth, death, marriage, divorce, or loss of prior coverage). An employee has 30 days from the date of the qualifying event to make changes to benefits. Qualifying events are submitted through Paycom with supporting documentation.
TERMINATION
Employees who terminate from the University who are enrolled in the health, dental, or vision plans have the option to continue their benefits at their own expense. Information regarding the continuation of benefits will be mailed to the home address on file from our third-party vendor, Cobrahelp. All current benefit cards can be used if the employee continues benefits after termination. Information on continuing life insurance and flexible spending accounts is included in the Paycom offboarding checklist. Basic life and voluntary life insurance terminate on the last day of employment.
DEPENDENT TERMINATION
Dependent children can be covered on the Iona health, dental, vision, and life insurance until the end of the month in which they turn 26 years old. Information for the dependent child to continue benefits will be sent to the mailing address on file from our third-party vendor, Cobrahelp.
